The BC region of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) will be hosting a 1-day workshop consisting of three sessions on Saturday May 5th, 2018, at the University of the Fraser Valley Abbotsford campus. The day will run from 8:30 am until 5 pm. Participants will take part in three sessions let by experts in the field of sport psychology intermixed by breaks for networking opportunities.

This experiential session will utilize attendees’ expertise to illuminate best practice for assisting athletes’ management of challenging performance scenarios. Through a question and answer format, the panel will share knowledge and experience for student CSPA members looking to identify potential supervisors and professional members who may be looking to expand their practice and provide student supervision.

Session 3: Insights and Discussion with Kelowna Chiefs Forward and Mindright.info Creator Myles Mattila on Mental Health Advocacy

Moderator: Leanne Fielding

Myles discusses his experiences on becoming an advocate for young athletes suffering with mental illness. This discussion will provide first-hand insight on being a mental health advocate as a young athlete and his experiences developing an online mental health resource. In 2017, Mattila received the prestigious BC Hockey President’s Award and also received praise from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his mental health advocacy.
