Certification
A Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) is a highly trained professional who specializes in the mental performance aspects of sport and performance. CMPCs are certified by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA-ACPS), which ensures they meet rigorous standards of education, training, and ethical practice.

The CMPC® certification program is nationally accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). In October 2021, CSPA-ACPS entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) to certify mental performance consultants, including those who are existing who wish to be professional members of CSPA-ACPS.
The CMPC® Certification demonstrates to clients, employers, colleagues, and the public at large that a certified individual has met the highest standards of professional practice, including completing a combination of educational and work requirements, successfully passing a certification exam, agreeing to adhere to ethical principles and standards, and committing to ongoing professional development.

Guidelines for Service Provision and Use of Title
While the CMPC designation signifies the highest standard of education and training in the psychological aspects of sport science, it does not designate the individual as a “sport psychologist.” Requirements for providing psychological services are determined by individual state, provincial, and/or territorial licensing boards.
